Veda Mantra
contemplation
“Aum Apo
hishta mayo bhuvastha na oorge
dadhana
mahe Ranaaya chachase”
(Yajur Veda 11.50, Rishi – Sindudeepa, Devathaa –
Aapa, Chanda – Gayathri, Swara – Shadja)
Approximate
meaning:-
O Waters! Which are pure & suitable for obtaining; you are
certainly providers of physical & mental pleasures. You, who create all
consumable items which give us strength, power, etc., please accumulate strength
and stamina for us. Thus, let us see with pleasure and enjoy the good looking
great creations of this beautiful world and nature.
Contemplation
In this beautiful and attractive creation, we demand one by
one. All things are said to be pure and divine. We shall be able to maintain
those qualities. Our selfishness and ignorance, which pollutes the blessings of
the nature, should be destroyed. You can help us in this aspect, as you are the
creator of the water which has the power to wash away impurities. Please
inspire us for it. Let us be able to enjoy the amazing beauties of the nature.
My note
This is a free lance translation of the Malayalam article by
late (Acharya) Narendra Bhooshan, great Vedic scholar of recent times, self
published in February 1988 edition of “Arshanadam”, the only
Vedic-Philosophical journal in Malayalam, which started by him in 1970. I am
not a Vedic scholar, just a person trying to learn Vedas and try to teach what
I have learned. I apologize to all Vedic scholars for all errors and omissions
in this article, which purely due to my ignorance, negligence and laziness. I
have to say English language is inefficient, improper and inadequate to express
Eastern philosophies, while respecting it as one of the international mediums
of communication. I have totally failed to translate the beautiful Malayalam
Bhashyam (interpretation) of Acharyaji to something presentable. Then, why am I
doing this? This is a very humble attempt to reach Vedas to all around globe.
This is also a part of my Guru Dakshina to Acharyaji, whom I consider as my
real Guru, though I have not inherited or derived many of his qualities like
real Vedic scholar, linguist, teacher, writer, orator, etc.
To those who oppose Vedas, please try to know its real
meaning. If anyone refers to ANY western scholar to know about Vedas, we are
sorry to say you are on the in correct path. Why? They have not studied Vedas,
Sangopangam (with all 6 parts, called Vedanga & 6 sub-parts, called Veda
Upanga). Even in India (I prefer Bharath), many scholars have studied Vedas
without these Anga & Upanga. So, they miss the opportunity to get in depth
about Vedas. To get an idea about these, please refer to my article in http://bharathiyata.blogspot.com/2011/10/vedas-books-of-knowledge.html
