Veda Mantra Contemplation – Description of some qualities of Ishwar (God/Allah)
(Rishi - Bandhu, Devatha – Rudra, Chandas – Swaraat Gayathri, Swara – Shadja)
Bhejasamasi Bheshajam Gaveshwaaya Purushaaya Bheshajaam.
Sukham Meshaaya Meshyai..
(Yajurveda 3.59 Third
Chapter, 59th Mantra)
Verbal Meaning:- Oh Ishwar (God/Allah)! You
are the destructive cause of all diseases and destroyer of the causes of
diseases. Please provide us that comfort which provides strong and smooth
progress of the natural cause of living, for all the living beings including humans
living in houses, animals in land, mountains, etc.
Inner meaning:- Humans wish to achieve
comfort. The one which can create major obstacles from getting it is surely
diseases. Disease is not gone by hard work, which means disease cannot be cured
without the mercy of Ishwar (God/Allah). The devotee is not only saved from
diseases but from even the root causes of diseases by Ishwar (God/Allah) who is
also the destructor of all diseases. Body, mind and organs are the symbols of
pleasure in human life. But they can rush like a horse to
the ocean of pleasures, if and only if they are free of diseases. They co-exist peacefully like animals (the actual word
used is Ajam, which is having a variety of meanings – goat, the one which is
not born, tree which is embedded in the seed, etc.). It is like a cow (who
is like our own mother) who protects own family and other families by providing
milk, the amazing nectar, sustains the future generations. Therefore, Oh Ishwar
(God/Allah)! You are the Greatest Doctor; it is prayer to you is the medicine
and nectar for curing of diseases. Prayer cures diseases of our body, organs,
even the whole universe and also destroys the root causes of the diseases of
soul and reconciles and convinces the bond with you. Therefore, we bow and
dedicate to that Great Doctor – Ishwar (God/Allah).
Note:- This English interpretation is an independent attempt to
translate Malayalam interpretation of Yajur Veda from Arshanadam
Malayalam monthly 2013 January edition. Arshanadam
is the only Vedic-Philosophical Journal in Malayalam started in 1970 by late
(Acharya) Narendra Bhooshan, greatest Vedic scholar of recent times.
Malayalam interpretation of Yajur Veda was started by Acharyaji,
now continued by his son Vedaprakash, who is also an exemplary Vedic
scholar who writes with immense knowledge, unusual easiness, simplicity and an
amazing flow. My humble Pranams to both Acharyaji (who I consider as my
Guru) and Vedaprakash who is a very good friend of mine.
Forgive me for all errors in this article, for which I am
fully responsible. It is because of my ignorance, laziness and negligence. For
all the good things in this, I fully owe to Acharyaji and Vedaprakash. My
special thanks to Vedaprakash who gave me permission to publish articles from Arshanadam
freely on the web. I am a student of VEDAS and my humble intention is to
study and spread VEDAS, the Ultimate Knowledge, to all human beings
around the globe without any prejudice.
